Langdon & Emison

Brett Emison is a partner at Langdon & Emison in Lexington, MO. Brett’s practice focuses almost exclusively on catastrophic injury and death cases, as well as class action and other complex tort cases, including automobile defects, railroad crossing accidents, trucking accidents, dangerous or defective drugs, and a variety of other cases.

Brett has been honored by the Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s Up, and Coming Lawyers, among others. For his successful representations of people injured in train accidents, Brett was selected the “Lawyer of the Year” for the Kansas City metro area for the 2019 edition of Best Lawyers in America, in the category of railroad law for plaintiffs. Brett is currently President of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys (MATA) and serves on the National Finance Council and as Chairman of the Publications Committee for the American Association for Justice. Because of his and his firm’s vast experience in this area, he is regularly published by national trade publications on product liability and other contemporary topics in the law.

As Brett puts it, “I was fortunate in my firm to be surrounded by great trial attorney mentors. I was also fortunate that my firm valued relationship building through AIEG, AAJ, and our state trial lawyer association. When we share knowledge with other lawyers, it makes us all better. Trial lawyers are unique in our willingness to help and share information. I also usually end up learning something new when I’m supposed to be “teaching”.”

By becoming a Trial School Faculty member, Brett hopes he can be helpful in providing a critical nugget or two of information. He also hopes that others will “pay it forward” by helping someone else down the line. “Trial lawyers really are at their best when we share information broadly and without expectation of something in return so that we make our profession better and help other lawyers and other clients in their fight for justice”.

Most attorneys involved with Trial School notably mention they gain just as much from teaching as members learn from their expertise. Brett hopes he can learn something new every day. He hopes to meet people he would not have met otherwise, he hopes to learn more about their lives and their law practice, he hopes to learn some of the secrets of their success that he might be able to utilize in his own practice.
